Conservatories - How we approach the job

Our designer will provide Computer Aided Design drawings showing six different elevations of your conservatory as a three-dimensional lined drawing. A photo quality virtual reality image is also available, either free standing or superimposed on a digital photograph of your property. We go to great lengths to keep you in full control of the final appearance, giving the opportunity at every stage for you to check that everything is just the way you want it. An on site visit from our surveyor will allow him to take very accurate measurements and draw freehand, for his own records, the frames and roof of the new structure. He will confirm details with you; where exactly the conservatory will sit, where windows and doors are and which way they will open etc, to make sure that it will turn out exactly as you imagine.

The Base of your new Conservatory

We insist on building to a very high specification, this is to ensure that the foundation of the complete structure will last well beyond the 10-year guarantee period.

Below you will find details of how your base work will be constructed:

  •

450mm x 300mm minimum concrete footings

  •

Hard engineering bricks up to damp proof course

  •

Twin brick wall to predetermined height

  •

50mm fibreglass sheet cavity insulation

  •

135-degree angles built using "squint" bricks, matching or contrasting

  •

Internal wall matching brick or plastered

  •

100mm consolidated stone hardcore

  •

1200 gauge Visqueen damp proof membrane

  •

50mm Polystyrene under floor insulation

  •

150mm concrete floor pad

  •

Floor finished to allow Ceramic Tile or Carpet Floor covering

The Frames of your new Conservatory

We use FORMULAONE frames - click here to visit their website
and Pilkington Glass - Click here to view their website

The frames of your conservatory need to be of a very high quality in order to withstand extremes of heat and cold and suppress the effects of ultra violet light that can often make inferior frames discolour. The raw product used in the manufacture of the Profile (The bar length from which window or Conservatory frames is manufactured), is Poly Vinyl Chloride, more commonly referred to as PVC. This material is Unplasticised so that heat does not produce excessive expansion or cause frames to go limp and twist out of square, cold winter nights will not make the profile brittle and crack. All of their frames are fully reinforced with Galvanised Steel and Aluminium to give all the rigidity needed for a load bearing frame. The glass used for the sealed units is Pilkington Glass, they are without doubt the leaders in glass technology and, in our opinion, anything else is a compromise. We make our sealed units a total width of between 24mm and 32 mm overall. This is made up from two leaves of 4mm Toughened safety glass on each side of a spacing bar filled with Silica Gel to remove all moisture from the air when the unit is sealed. We specify these sizes to give maximum thermal insulation and noise reduction whilst still being aesthetically pleasing when fitted to the framework. The spacing bar is available in a silver or gold coloured finish.

We can fit the glass units from the outside or the inside

Outside: When frames are glazed from the outside we use a special security glazing tape on the frames to fix the glass units to the inside of the frames. This prevents removal of the glass units from the outside; this method puts the decorative edged beading on the outside of the conservatory and a chamfered edge finish on the inside.

Inside: When internally glazed units are fitted, the decorative glazing beads are on the inside of the frames so that there is nothing to remove from the outside, this puts the decorative edges on the inside and a chamfered edge on the outside.

Security

The locking mechanism used on opening vents is a combination design. It incorporates mushroom headed bolts which lock into hooded keeps, this in turn is screwed into the reinforcing in the frames, shoot bolts which engage from each side of the opening then vent into the outer framework. A cam along the leading edge of the vent engages the bolts and turning the window handle on the vent drives this cam. The handle has a button on the top edge that has to be depressed before the handle can turn, the handle can also be locked with a key to prevent the depression of this button and therefore securing the opener totally. The doors are also high in security incorporating mortise bolts and claw locks.

Why should we choose Cloverfield?

We really do appreciate that we are talking about Your Money and it could be a considerable amount of your money. Even a relatively small conservatory could be taking up a large portion of savings that you have worked hard for, we know that you don't want to make any mistakes.

We consider ourselves a very professional company and hope that is how we have come over to you so far. This package is an example of how far we are prepared to go to help you to decide the right design for your conservatory and it doesn't stop here.

You will be treated with the utmost courtesy and professionalism right through the project, we can assure you of this because we only use our own workers who have shown over the years that they can do an exceptional job with manners and will cause as little disruption to your day as possible.

We are not the cheapest that you will find, nor are we the dearest, our promise is that you will get exactly what you want from us for a fair price, or in other words we give you value for money.

Anyone who can suddenly drop their price by thousands of pounds to match a competitor's price may not have been completely honest with you in the first place?

Could we be a little cheaper?

Yes is the simple answer, but you should be aware of how we could cut costs:

  •
We could dig narrower and shallower footings and use other than grade "A" Concrete
  •
We could leave your floor uninsulated (not an option to be considered)
  •
We could buy a cheap substitute brick that may still match your house (Well almost)
  •
We could use a cheaper "kit" roof system instead of a one piece roof completely welded together or sectional manufactured by Ultraframe, the largest roof manufacturer in Europe and the only BBA approved roof in the U.K.
  •
We could use the thinner 25 mm five wall polycarbonate sheets instead of 35 mm seven wall polycarbonate on a choice of colours orany one of several different glass effects.
  •
We could use window profile to manufacture the roof instead of the correct extruded PVC coated aluminium.
  •
We could lay a thinner floor than the 150 mm minimum thickness we prefer. · We could fit less opening lights (you would regret this in the summer)
  •
We could use less or no reinforcing inside the frames (we reinforce all frames throughout)
  •
We could buy and manufacture from a cheaper profile other than the FORMULAONE internally glazed system that we use
  •
We could screw the frames to each other instead of using a specially shaped dedicated corner post for strength and good looks
  •
We could use mortar joints on the 135-degree angles instead of the specially shaped "squint" bricks that we use.
  •
We could fit just 1 handle to the French doors instead of a handle on each door
  •
We could use espagnolette or shootbolt locking mechanisms instead of both combined.
  •
We could use cheap flashbanding instead of code 3 lead roll to flash the conservatory to your house.

The list could go on and on; many of the items listed above you wouldn't even notice were missing……… at first!
